My#wwscrappytrip is basted! 🥳 I’m ahead of schedule, but I’m planning on lots of quilting, so it may take a while yet. Did anyone else obsessively watch What Not to Wear on TLC years ago? I paid lots of attention to Stacy and Clinton’s rules, thinking my future important self would need more of a fashion repertoire than simply clean, comfortable pants as a #sahm, but I digress. Every outfit needed: colour, texture, pattern, and shine. That kept popping into my head because this quilt is completely killing it for those categories. Soft shell #konacotton pink background is the base for different patterns in pinks, blues, mustards, and off-whites; there are texture variations from both #essexlinen linen and beautiful #diamondtextiles in dotted and rectangle patterns (from @fabricbubb 💕), and there is lovely shine from an AGF #prismaelements and metallic yarn-dyed Essex linen. Backing pieced! 🥳 Now I can assemble my blocks for the #wwscrappytrip. I would love to show more of the pieced back, but there’s too much mess and a toddler if I share a wider view 🤷🏼‍♀️ I assure you this one can qualify for a #partyinthequiltback 💕 AND it helps me in my goal to use up stash this year! #patchwork #stthomasproud #modernquilt

A beautiful mess in the winter sunshine! ❄️☀️ I have all my blocks for the #wwscrappytrip done and organized for the final layout of the top (upper right corner), but I am setting them aside before assembly. I am eager to put them together, but I am trying to “eat the frog” first, and piece my backing so it won’t sit around as a finished top because I have stalled out on making the back. Then I will have no excuses for not basting once the top is ready! I really would have liked to order yardage of another #lesfleursfabric print for the back, but I am trying to not buy new and use stash as much as I can this year, so I am piecing all the bits I have left of fabrics I used in the top. I just couldn’t bear to toss the last little bits left after my strip piecing for the #wwscrappytrip blocks. I managed to scrounge at least 1” pieces out of 19/20 sets, (selvedges included), and I’m glad I took the time to piece them! A lot of seams and tiny pieces, but it added up to a block that is actually a bit larger than the 16”square quilt blocks! (Swipe to see the pressed seams on the back.) I’m thinking I may end up piecing a back for this quilt, so I may fit this piece in there, or make a little pillow to go with the quilt. #useitall #scrapsewing #selvedgesarestilluseablefabric #canadianmqc #stthomasproud

A lovely finish on these quilted silhouette pillows! They have lovely texture, both from the #essexlinen used for front and back, and from the diagonal grid quilting. The deer silhouettes are #konacotton and are done in appliqué (see a few posts back for a progress shot). Burying threads on the front for the quilting was worth it to not go right through the charcoal outline. These are finished with a zipper (see @suzyquilts blog for a great tutorial on finishing pillows with zippers!). #stthomasproud #quilting #patchwork #modernquilt #canadianmqc #neutraldecor #quiltedpillow
